Description
This is a Victorian era English Silver Plate Dish from about 1870-1890. I think it was a breakfast dish of some kind, maybe for butter or jam. It is so elegant and unusual, I have never seen anything like it. It revolves open and closed when you grab the handle, revealing the content. There is a glass dish inside where you can place the butter or jam. There is a little locking pin hanging from a chain and you can lock he lid closed with the pin.It has beautiful fern engravings on top along with a small engraving of a ribbon and bow. The dish has natural twig or stick style handles and legs. It has an ivory handle. There is a silver stamp on the bottom, I have included a photo of it. It indicates "S E P 2083" and then something like "FANS" but it is hard to read. The size of the dish is: handle to handle 8 inches, height 4.5 inches, width 6 inches.
Condition: very good for its age. There is a crack mark in the ivory handle but it is still in one piece. A bit of rubbing on the bottom where the glass insert is against the metal. Let me know if you have questions or need more photos.
